Position Profile

Reporting to the VP, Finance & Admin, the Manager, Finance will provide the operational support required to ensure the efficient and effective management of the Finance Department, as well as adhere to all external and internal reporting deadlines.

The Manager, Finance is responsible for ensuring full compliance with the policies and procedures as it relates to all finance and accounting initiatives at ventureLAB which includes oversight, governance and efficient administration of ventureLAB’s financial management system and its evolution to support the growth and strategic objectives of the organization. 

The Manager, Finance will be an experienced leader with strong financial management experience and a proven track record of creative problem-solving and change management in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial driven organization.

Responsibilities

‍

• Coordinate and manage monthly closings, general ledger reconciliations, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
• Enforcing a system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures, including management of ventureLAB contracts administration to support the requirements for other ventureLAB departments.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, policies, procedures, and governance. Mitigate financial risk by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all accounting and financial reporting under GAAP. 
• Maintain financial modelling for ongoing forecasting and reporting, as well as producing and maintaining a financial dashboard providing insights from financial analytics.
• Plan and manage multiple annual external audits.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process, and track monthly variances against budget.
• Periodic (monthly, quarterly and/or semi-annual) external financial reporting to government funding agencies and other key stakeholders. Track and report on total costs by programs.
• Lead the financial preparation of ventureLAB’s funding requests to external partners.
• Support the VP, Finance & Admin with special projects and workflow process improvements.

Qualifications

‍

• Recognized accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA) mandatory; a master’s degree in business administration, financial management or accounting is preferred
• Minimum 7 to 10  years’ experience in a financial management role with both external audit and in-house financial management experience gained in a high-growth organization and experience in either public or private sector reporting
• Stellar reputation for integrity and ethical conduct
• Strong judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Strong team leadership skills and demonstrated initiative and responsiveness; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers and work across cross-functional and diverse teams; demonstrated past experience of managing direct reports
• Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask
• Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
