Tahmeed Rahim, one of the founders of Dawn Robotics, wants exactly what his company’s name suggests - to bring about a new dawn for robotics using artificial intelligence (AI).

How he plans to do that is through Dawn’s patent pending program, Glyph. The computer visioning technology can allow companies to attach digital assets to physical products of any shape or size. Those digital assets can then be instructed to interact with an object in whatever way the company likes.

Take the example of an organization that wants to visualize a design without creating physical samples. They could use Glyph to showcase what they want on whatever item they want without having to print, ship, store, or display an excessive amount of new products.

“We are working on computer vision systems, as vision is the most important sense needed to navigate our existing environment,” Tahmeed says. “We believe it will be the upcoming medium that is as ubiquitous as smartphones.”

He adds he and his team are working to evolve how data is used in our daily lives.

“Humans embed data everywhere. For example, we navigate roads through the data on road signs such as stop signs and traffic lights. We read the data on the signs and are able to gain context. The same needs to be created for machines,” Tahmeed says. “Embedding data into physical world objects that machines can read and understand, will allow us to extract the most out of automation. Next generation markers like Glyph will solve the problem of identification for machines and will work together with machine learning techniques to help machines understand how to navigate the physical world.”

His ultimate goal is to make Glyph - and computer vision - accessible to everyone.

“Many AR companies are concentrated on doctoring purely digital elements to float in our world. We’re not interested in that,” he notes. “Dawn Robotics is focused on enhancing real-world objects and materials, providing new possibilities for interaction and customization.”

Getting started with Dawn Robotics is simple.

First, Tahmeed and his team will work with a client to decide which products will best benefit from the use of the company’s markers, then they wrap them in the technology. After the product is fit, they integrate Glyph into the company’s existing app and ecosystem, providing the company with real-time feedback about the product.

Today, Dawn Robotics’ many clients include furniture and clothing companies who want to integrate AR into their customer experience.

As a first-time founder, he says visualizing the future he’s wanted to see for his business has been critical to its success. So has working with the team at ventureLAB and his Accelerate AI cohort colleagues.

“We realized we needed help to build and scale AI technology into a viable business. When we looked into ventureLAB, we knew right away that we could learn and build with the help of the mentors.”

“We believe you shouldn’t need a PhD to implement computer vision applications. Instead, we want to build a platform that allows anyone to easily create AR experiences with Glyph and to create with a new medium.” He adds.
