Semiconductor Ecosystem and Centre for Training and Research (SECTR)

SECTR, The Semiconductor Ecosystem and Centre for Talent and Research (SECTR) was created as a distinct not-for-profit entity to address shortcomings at the frontend, or early-stage inputs, that are part of a national strategy that will allow Canada to have an independent and vibrant semiconductor ecosystem. SECTR emphasizes equity, diversity and inclusion in training as a means to encourage gender balance and the promotion of equity deserving groups in the technology sector. This entity is run as an independent not-for-profit where governance includes an advisory board with representation from government, industry, academia, relevant NFPs.

Users will include start-ups and small-medium enterprises and multi-nationals anchoring R&D capabilities. Impacts include talent development for highly skilled jobs that support the national economy. This will provide talent that creates new companies, encourages expanded R&D capacity for existing companies and attracts foreign direct investment to access this talent pipeline.
